His teaching and research specialties are legislative politics\, southern politics\, and survey research. He co-authored the book Battle for the Heart of Texas: Political Change in the Electorate.\n\n\n\nPrior to teaching at The Citadel\, Dr. Owens taught at UT Tyler and Bates College.
