Beyond BASIC Life Skills welcomes Kay Phillips, PhD LISW-CP, executive director at the Dorchester Children’s Advocacy Center, as the newest Board of Directors member. Dr. Phillips brings to her role over 35 years of administrative, personnel, and management experience.
Dr. Phillips holds a doctorate and master degree in Social Work from the University of South Carolina and has served as the executive director of the Dorchester Children’s Advocacy Center since August 2004. In addition to her role as DCAC’s executive director, Dr. Phillips is a board member and the secretary of the South Carolina Network of Child Advocacy Centers; she has served in the past as the president of the organization. Locally, Dr. Phillips is an active member of the Summerville Rotary Club and the Dorchester County Agency Director’s Forum. At the state level Dr. Phillips is working toward bettering outcomes for children across South Carolina in her current role as a governor appointee to the South Carolina Joint Citizens and Legislative Committee on Children. Last year, Dr. Phillip’s was named the 2018 Non-profit Leader of the year by Trident United Way Women United.

Beyond BASIC is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that assists adults with intellectual disabilities in becoming contributing members of society by providing a program that enables independent living skills beyond the basics. Their curriculum provides tools and develops skills in an individualized program that fosters independence to the fullest extent while advocating a movement for inclusion within the community.
